The Civic Circle's Hamilton Camp with Carpe Diem Arts was a heartwarming success, thanks to an extremely special group of campers who threw themselves into Hamilton singalongs and crafts, songwriting and ukulele lessons. Campers even created an illustrated a “Revolutionary War Timeline,” proving again that yes, you can get elementary schoolers excited about American history.
A highlight was a camper performance of "The Citizen Tango," about the "seven steps to democracy" at Carpe Diem's Community Sing in Old Town Takoma Park. Big thanks to Carpe Diem Executive Director Busy Graham, Camp Director Denise Jones, Teacher/Counselor Diana Duran, and Teaching Artist Gabrielle Zwi for all the hard work and inspiration that made this camp a success.
What really made this camp special was the seven full scholarships that Carpe Diem provided for children of families from Ethiopia, Guatemala, El Salvador, and Ukraine. Thanks to the generous community members who have supported these scholarships!
