THE CIVIC CIRCLE EXTENDS GRATITUDE to the generous funders who have recently stepped forward to support our ongoing expansion in 2024. We are thrilled to be among 95 nonprofits awarded $10,000 apiece for operating funding through the Maryland Humanities Marilyn Hatza Memorial SHINE Grant Program. SHINE (Strengthening the Humanities Investment in Nonprofits for Equity) is the perfect acronym for this program, which helps us all shine a light in the darkness through the humanities.
WE ALSO THANK THE ARTS AND HUMANITIES COUNCIL of Montgomery County for its recent generous Wheaton Cultural Project Grant award to The Civic Circle. This funding will support the after-school enrichment workshops we offer at two locations in Wheaton in partnership with Montgomery Housing Partnership. Students in those workshops have enjoyed an exciting semester writing, choreographing and performing their own civic songs with an expanded team of teaching artists. Thank you, AHCMC, for making this work possible!
GRATITUDE ALSO GOES OUT TO THE TAKOMA FOUNDATION, which recently awarded a grant to The Civic Circle that will help us put on a Democracy Concert with students in greater Takoma Park. We launched The Civic Circle five years ago with a Democracy Concert in Takoma Park, and we are excited to both revive the tradition of community concerts, and explore new programming opportunities with students in the Middle and High School grades.
AT A TIME WHEN HUMANITIES FUNDING and programming are being cut in some quarters, The Civic Circle thanks these supporters for appreciating the need for students to build critical thinking, creative self-expression, literacy, empathy and civic leadership. In challenging times for our nation and our world, these are the skills that will guide us toward the light.
