YOUTH-SERVING ORGANIZATIONS, including The Civic Circle, will gather at the Silver Spring Civic Building on Wednesday, April 17 from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. in a community event titled “Youth In Power.” This free, 'one-stop' informational forum will give families and individuals who the chance to learn more about local youth programs and resources in our area. THE CIVIC CIRCLE IS EXCITED to be sharing our “Civics in Seven Steps” curriculum at the upcoming Maryland Civic Education & Leadership Summit. Hosted by the Maryland Civic Education Coalition, the summit takes place on Saturday, April 20 at Crofton High School, and will feature a dynamic speaker lineup, interactive workshops, and a Civics & Service Slam for students. Educators, community leaders, parents & guardians, students and civic advocates are all invited to register HERE. The Civic Circle will be leading a breakout session titled: Yes! You Can Teach Civics to Elementary Schoolers!
FAMILIES CELEBRATE VOTING is the theme of The Civic Circle’s free, drop-in activity to celebrate voting through the arts on Saturday, April 27, which will feature sticker-making, crafts and creative expression. This event takes place from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at CREATE Arts Center, located at 914 Silver Spring Ave. in Silver Spring. Kids are invited to create an “I Voted” sticker and/or bling to wear and take home. Youth and Parents are invited to discover the poetry of voting, and write their own poem or reflection about what voting means to them. Please click HERE for more information.
VOTE FOR CIVICS on June 2 with The Civic Circle, as we gather for great food and drink, civic songs and arts activities with event co-chairs Jeffrey Slavin and Margo Reid. We’ll hear from Karla Silvestre, the President of the Montgomery County Board of Education and Director of Community Engagement at Montgomery College, and we will give out our first “Art of Democracy” award to Busy Graham, the Founder and Executive Director of Carpe Diem Arts. We hope you will join us in honoring Busy’s decades-long civic and arts leadership in our region.
