AS OUR NATION CELEBRATES 250 years of democracy, The Civic Circle is excited to announce its own milestone: Katherine Wise will take the helm on July 1 as our executive director.
Wise signed on in January as program director, and she quickly emerged as the ideal person to lead us into our next chapter. An educator, strategic communicator, and creative multimedia producer with extensive nonprofit experience, Wise brings infectious energy and enthusiasm to our work building civic power through the arts.
“Our mission is critical, but our work is hopeful and optimistic,” says Wise. “As we teach the next generation about civic arts and democracy, I look forward to hearing the ideas and perspectives from our local youth who can also teach and inspire us!”
Wise has led communications, multimedia, and production work for international non-governmental organizations such as Jhpiego and FHI 360, as well as for the Council on Foreign Relations. She also teaches English to adult language learners in Maryland, bringing valuable insights as an educator to our civic arts workshops.
Founder Eliza Newlin Carney will work in tandem with Wise over the summer as part of this long-planned succession transition. We hope you will join us on November 5 for an official celebration to welcome Wise and thank Carney for her work founding and leading The Civic Circle over the last eight years.
