Munit Mesfin The Civic Circle is excited to be joining the D.C. Public Library’s Civic Engagement Summer School with a special presentation by Teaching Artist and award-winning singer-songwriter Munit Mesfin. Munit will lead a collective songwriting workshop with youth and adults of all ages, with a special focus on songs of social justice and female empowerment. Participants should be able to walk away singing a song that they have written about an issue that matters
The Civic Circle was thrilled to bring a summer concert of patriotic songs to more than 80 elementary school students at the Horizons Greater Washington Summer Program on July 16th. Our “Happy Birthday, America!” concert featured a powerhouse lineup of talented children’s performers: Lea Morris invited students to take seven “steps to democracy” with The Citizen Tango, and performed our civility and news literacy songs (“Listen!” and “Whisper Down the Lane.”) Uasuf Gueye got the kids
BIG THANKS TO THE MANY SUPPORTERS who made The Civic Circle’s “Raise a Glass to Freedom” celebration such a resounding success. The Civic Circle is extremely grateful to the amazing young people who made Youth Civic Saturday such a success! And thanks to the No Boundaries Youth Organizers for co-hosting. A shout-out also goes out to Citizen University for creating Civic Saturdays, and for the fellowship opportunity that made this one happen.
