AFTER-SCHOOL TEACHERS!

The Civic Circle seeks part-time teachers interested in gaining classroom experience as in one or more after-school workshops with students in Grades 3-5 in Fall, 2024. These are fun, paid positions that give you field work experience. Teachers will supervise weekly, after-school sessions on the topic of democracy, service-learning and civic skills, using Civic Circle lesson plans that emphasize music, the arts, and performance-based learning. A brief virtual orientation will precede the workshops. This is a great opportunity for student teachers who would like to develop their classroom skills in a real-world setting, or for part-time teachers of any age. Please contact [email protected].

TALENT CALL! CIVIC CIRCLE TEACHING ARTISTS

The Civic Circle seeks performers and teaching artists to perform in our assembly show help bring our democracy curriculum alive in arts-based after-school workshops for students age 8-13. Our teaching artists perform in schools and use the arts to convey lessons about seven civic skills we call “steps to democracy,” including civility (Listen!), news literacy (Learn!), and voting (Choose!). The ideal candidate will have a commitment to working with youth, experience using the arts to explore humanities materials, and be a teaching artist in one of the following areas: Singing and songwriting, instrumental music, poetry, theater, spoken word/storytelling, or visual arts. The Civic Circle has an opening on our Board of Directors! Join our creative, collaborative team, and have a say in the direction of this expanding group. The ideal candidate will have a passion for democracy and civic life, have a connection to Montgomery County, and have experience in one or more of the following areas: Education and youth, arts programming, fundraising, and/or nonprofit governance. YOUTH COUNCIL MEMBER

The Civic Circle has an opening on our Youth Council, a volunteer position that involves attending six board meetings a year, promoting and supporting our organization as an ambassador in the community, and helping ensure that our programs are responsive to and relevant to Montgomery County’s youth. This is an outstanding opportunity for a high school or college student who has a passion for democracy issues and civic life, and would like to learn more about entrepreneurial leadership and nonprofit management. VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES

The Civic Circle seeks volunteers to assist in a variety of areas. These include:

  • GUEST SPEAKERS: High School and College guest speakers who would like to share their civic experiences with younger students in our after-school workshops. Student journalists, advocates, voters, volunteers and student government representatives are all encouraged to participate. Guest speaker visits qualify for Student Service-Learning hours.
  • EVENT VOLUNTEERS: The Civic Circle has ongoing volunteer opportunities for students who want to help at community civic events, volunteer fairs, fundraisers and concerts. Volunteers qualify for Service-Learning hours.
