Students were thrilled to receive a visit  from college student Fabio Garay, who has moved to University of Maryland from Montgomery College. He spoke with Civic Circle students on why voting matters, and shared stickers from the voter registration group MC Votes, where he remains active. Students also created a “word wall” on how they can “be the change” and “make their voices heard” by voting.

College student Fabio Garay led an outstanding workshop on voting with Civic Circle students. Fabio has moved to University of Maryland from Montgomery College, but he is still active in the voter registration group MC Votes. Fabio shared why he is registering his peers to get out and vote, and helped students create a “word wall” on how they can “be the change” and “make their voices heard” by voting. Thank you, Fabio!

Big thanks to Munit Mesfin for kicking off fall programming with a fantastic performance of Civic Circle songs! Students are more engaged than ever now that social distancing is starting to recede into the rear-view mirror. Thanks to Montgomery Housing Partnership for the opportunity to offer these workshops.

How do you get young kid excited about voting? Poet Malachi Byrd used Hip Hop, super heroes and creative writing to fully engage students in a recent Jack & Jill of America workshop. Thanks, Jack & Jill and Malachi for making this event a success!
