The Civic Circle celebrates its 5th Anniversary on Sunday, June 25 from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. in the festive Lower Tap Room of Denizens Brewing Co., located at 1115 East-West Highway in Silver Spring. We’ll also have civic songs from jazz vocalist Alison Crockett, silent and live auctions with Maryland
Students in Grades 3-5 at Weller Road and Wheaton Woods Elementary Schools spent the spring writing civic songs with teaching artists Munit Mesfin and Gabrielle Zwi, then performed those songs for younger students (ranging from Pre-K to 2nd grade) at their schools. The younger kids loved watching their older peers perform, and the older students took great pride in sharing the songs that they wrote. Here’s a snippet from one of the Weller Road students’
Youth Civic Summit, Take Three!

The Civic Circle was honored to participate in the Maryland Civic Education Coalition’s third annual summit, titled “Strengthening Civics for All!” We had a Youth Service and Civics Slam, roundtable discussions on civics as a lifelong journey and Civic Seals as a civic learning tool, and remarks by Maryland Congressman Glenn Ivey, State Senator Shelly Hettleman, and others.
