THE MAGICAL NUMBER SEVEN crops up a lot in myth, culture and daily life, in theory because it’s the maximum number of objects the average person can easily remember. There are seven wonders of the world, seven deadly sins, seven dwarves who befriend Snow White, seven notes in a scale, seven days in a week—the list goes on.
There are also seven “steps to democracy” at the heart of the Civic Circle’s program—bridging divides (Listen!), news literacy (Learn!), voting (Choose!), volunteering (Join!), advocacy (Speak!), organizing (Act!), and public service (Lead!). This year, we are celebrating our seventh year using music and the arts to inspire compassionate, informed, engaged citizens. And that celebration is now seven days away.
To be part of this sevenfold magic, reserve your tickets HERE! You will not want to miss civic insights and inspiration from our keynote speaker, Civic Nation CEO Kyle Lierman. You will also want to be there when Lisa Martin, executive director of the Silver Spring Town Center, receives our “Art of Service” award for her contributions to our civic and community life. Write a collective poem with our emcee, poet Malachi Byrd, sing along with Munit Mesfin, and enjoy delicious refreshments from 6-8 p.m. on October 23 at the Silver Spring Civic Building. We hope to see you there!
