Welcome, Trevor Schmutz!

The Civic Circle is thrilled to welcome Trevor Schmutz as our first full-time team member. Trevor is a graduate student in public policy at George Washington University, and joins us as an AmeriCorps VISTA team member thanks to the sponsorship of Campus Compact Mid-Atlantic.

Trevor has experience in fundraising, event planning, and community arts, among other areas, and will be assisting The Civic Circle with capacity building as a Program Development Specialist. He got off to a fast start analyzing Civic Circle student evaluations this summer, and created a wonderful graphic to illustrate our impact in getting students excited about civic engagement.

Among his encouraging findings: Some 95 percent of students said they “learned new ways to resolve conflicts” in our workshops, and 91 percent said they are now “better at telling truth from fiction in the news,” and are “more excited about helping others and doing service-learning.”

More than 80 percent also said they “better understand who represents us in local, state  and national government,” are “more excited about speaking up and taking action on issues” they care about, and “can better define democracy” because of The Civic Circle. Welcome, Trevor!
