To get kids and families excited about the coming Midterms, The Civic Circle has released this new video about running for local, state or national office, and how student council can be the starting point. Thanks to Nick Newlin and Lea Morris for this buoyant performance!
Thank you, Montgomery County Councilmember Will Jawando, for sharing your passion for public service and voting with Civic Circle students yesterday! We particularly appreciated this answer to a question about accomplishments in public office: “I was very proud of expanding after-school programs like this one.” In a show of their appreciation, the students asked for his autograph!
The Hispanic Chamber of Commerce Montgomery County – HCCMC Leadership Awards Dinner was the place to be last night. MoCo officials present included County Executive Marc Elrich, Council President Gabe Albornoz, who received the Latinos in Public Service Award, and Councilmembers Nancy Navarro and Hans Riemer. Congressman David Trone also spoke, exhorting all those present to vote “because our democracy is absolutely at stake.” Montgomery County Councilmember Gabe Albernoz (above) and County Executive Marc Elrich
Students were thrilled to receive a visit from college student Fabio Garay, who has moved to University of Maryland from Montgomery College. He spoke with Civic Circle students on why voting matters, and shared stickers from the voter registration group MC Votes, where he remains active. Students also created a “word wall” on how they can “be the change” and “make their voices heard” by voting.
