This Giving Season, Give Hope

THE GIVING SEASON is almost here, and The Civic Circle invites you to join a campaign we’re calling “Give Hope.” The campaign kicks off on TuesdayDecember 3, when we will join the global movement to give back and celebrate generosity.  GivingTuesday started as a response to consumerism, but this year we are lifting up hope as an antidote to mistrust and disengagement. Students in our programs learn that their voices matter, and that democracy demands their participation. Please click HERE if you want to join this campaign right now to help inspire students to be the peacemakers, voters and problem solvers of tomorrow.

THE CAMPAIGN CONTINUES with our “Voices of Hope: Inspiring Democracy” celebration in downtown Silver Spring on Sunday, Dec. 8 from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. Our featured speaker will be Kate Stewart, Vice President of the Montgomery County Council, and our co-hosts are Jeffrey Slavin and Margo Reid. We’ll also hear from Praneel Suvarna, the county’s Student Member of the Board of Education, who will engage in a lively Q&A with Councilmember Stewart. We’ll have uplifting civic songs with Lilo Gonzalez and Munit Mesfin, civic arts activities, delicious refreshments, and a silent auction. Big thanks to Arts on the Block for inviting us to host this gathering at their headquarters at 900 Wayne Ave., #1A. Space is limited so reserve your tickets HERE. We hope to see you there!

TEACHERS FROM ALL OVER the country will have the opportunity to learn about our arts-based “Civics in Seven Steps” curriculum this weekend at the National Council for the Social Studies conference in Boston. The Civic Circle is excited to be presenting a conference talk titled “Use the Arts to Bring Civics Alive in Elementary School.” We’re looking forward to hearing from civic thought leaders, educators and teachers who share our passion for civics and public life. If you are about democracy and youth civic engagement, please “Give Hope” by clicking HERE or on the Donate button below.
